The City of Farmington City Clerk is appointed by the City Council and attends all meetings of the Council to record and maintain a permanent journal of its proceedings. The City Clerk Department is the custodian of the City Seal and all papers, documents and records pertaining to the City and is further responsible for all recorded documents with the Oakland County Register of Deeds.

The Clerk’s Department certifies all ordinances and resolutions enacted or passed by Council; provides and maintains a supply of forms for all petitions that are required to be filed for any purpose; and, administers oaths of office.

The Department registers all businesses within the City limits and issues a multitude of business licenses and permits including animal licenses, massage, solicitation, and taxicab licenses.

The Clerk’s Department manages the operation of Oakwood Cemetery, coordinating burials and keeping the records for lot sales, marker installations and burials.

Other responsibilities include park reservations, recycling waiver applications, posting and publication of all City meetings including Boards and Commissions.

The Department is a public information center where records management is an essential and major role of the office of the City Clerk.

The Department also maintains the City Charter, City Code, Zoning Code, Zoning Ordinances, Zoning Map and the Master Plan.

Election

The City Clerk Department is responsible for administration of all local, state and federal elections and maintenance of the qualified voter file.
