Community Services

 

The City budget provides support for many programs, some of which are described below. The community supports many other social programs sponsored by a variety of institutions, public and private. City staff will assist you in locating a program appropriate to your interests.

Farmington area residents enjoy a wide range of parks, recreational and leisure facilities and recreation programs. Jointly funded by the City of Farmington and administered by the Farmington Hills Special Services Department, a complete menu of recreational opportunities is available. The Senior Adult Program is among the area’s best in participants, facilities, staff and program variety. The program is administered by the Farmington Hills Special Services Department and is housed at the Wm. Costick Activities Center at Middlebelt and Eleven Mile Road. There is something of interest for every senior. Please call 248-473-1830.

Senior Community Liaison Maggie Loridas is available to advise seniors and assist them in accessing programs and services. Ms. Loridas can be reached at 248-477-4054.

The Senex Program provides daytime care for seniors who need assistance with everyday activities, or who cannot be left alone by their regular caregivers. To arrange an admission interview, call 248-473-1830.

Dial-a-Ride taxi service operates daily from 7 am to 7 pm, call 248-477-4300. For information about specialized transportation services, call 248-473-1864.

The monthly senior newsletter and calendar provide extensive coverage of activities of interest to seniors. Copies can be obtained at City Hall, the public library and Farmington Place, as well as the Costick Activities Center.

The Farmington Area Arts Commission supports artistic programs, including an artist in residence program, art in the schools and special programs for the handicapped. The Arts Commission’s primary mission is to assist artists and artistic institutions to help each other and themselves.

Four Youth Center, located at the Costick Center, Farmington Hills Ice Arena, YMCA and Warner Middle School, are operated by the Farmington Hills Area Youth Services Program. Times and activities vary by location. All are way cool. Just call 248-473-1841.

RRRASOC Acceptable and Unacceptable ItemsResource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County

Farmington is a member community in the Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County (RRRASOC). RRRASOC maintains a 7-day-a-week, 24-hour-a-day drop-off center at its main offices.

RRRASOC also operates the Regional Recycling Drop-Off Center (RDOC) located in the City of Novi DPW Yard on Delwal Drive, just north of Eleven Mile Road, east of the Town Center. Both drop-offs accept all plastic bottles, plastic bags, bulky #2 plastics (such as buckets), glass bottles and jars, ceramics, small metal, newspaper, magazines, cardboard, pizza boxes, office paper and more.

Farmington residents have access to five Household Hazardous Waste events (HHWs) each year. Items accepted at these events include: oil-based paint, pesticides, automotive fluids, batteries, mercury, pool chemicals, computer equipment and more.
