Press Release

“Summer time and the livin’ is easy.”

Release date: 4/23/2014

This year the Farmington Beautification Committee is introducing a brand new community project - The “Sunflower Explosion!” We are encouraging everyone in the community to show their Sunflower spirit and enter our first ever Sunflower Growing Competition. Not only will you brighten your own yard, but you will make Farmington an even brighter place to live! The Beautification Committee will promote the idea during the Memorial Day Parade and at the opening of the Farmers Market where we will hand out sunflower seedlings to anyone interested in getting in on the fun! Prizes for the biggest and the most sunflowers will be awarded at a special ceremony at Warner Mansion on August 10. Rules to be picked up upon entry.

The Beautification Committee is also involved in several other community activities. Each year the Committee recognizes homeowners with the best curb appeal landscaping, and this year we are initiating a Flower Arranging contest which will be open to anyone who wants to showcase their creative talent and enter an original flower arrangement. Details and prizes will be announced at a later date.

We also want to join the Sunflower Explosion so we will include sunflower plantings on Grand River and Shiawassee as well as in front of the Masonic Temple. Last year, flags were placed along Grand River, and this year we plan on continuing that project along Farmington Road.

We are always looking for volunteers and donations to help support our committee. Anyone wishing to participate can contact City Hall.
