Sharon Bernath retires after a decade on Historical Commission

At its February 3 meeting, Farmington City Council accepted the resignation of long-time volunteer Sharon Bernath from the Farmington Historical Commission. Sharon has served on the commission for 10 years. Sharon’s resignation leaves a vacancy on the Commission.

In addition to her dedication to the Historical Commission, Sharon has been an advocate of the Governor Warner Mansion for years. She serves on the Friends of the Mansion Board of Directors and is credited as the founder of the Warnerettes – a parasol drill team that wears “votes for women” sashes. She works tirelessly on one of the community’s favorite events, Ghost Night at the Mansion. As a Mansion docent, Sharon spends a lot of her time planning and promoting this community asset to ensure its viability. In 2018, Sharon was awarded the Dick Carvell Award, which is given to a person who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the preservation of Farmington history. Sharon’s expertise on the Historical Commission will be missed.

The Farmington Historical Commission meets the fourth Thursday of the month at 7 p.m.; Commissioners serve 3-year terms. The term left by Sharon will be through March, 2023. The purpose of the Historical Commission is to safeguard the heritage of the City by preserving the cultural, social, economic, political and architectural elements having historic significance; to foster and promote civic beautification with emphasis on historical significance; to promote the use of local history for education; and to encourage the collection of records and objects which interpret the history of Farmington.
